The role of gender and power dynamics in injection initiation events within intimate partnerships in the US-Mexico border region.

摘要: Women's initiation into injection drug use often establishes a pattern of risk following first injection. This study explored sources gendered power dynamics in experiences for people who inject drugs. A qualitative subsample from two prospective community-recruited cohorts drugs San Diego and Tijuana provided data on the contexts surrounding processes. Intimate partnerships were identified initiation; sub-themes drawing three concepts within theory gender power. With reference to sexual division labour, men responsible access resources across both contexts, although there limited accounts women obtaining those resources. Extending structure power, reported that events involving an intimate partner occurred position vulnerability but expressed greater agency when providing assistance. regard cathexis, social norms proscribing among exist, particularly Tijuana. Gendered are multifaceted component events, especially partnerships. These results stress need nuance understanding intersection risk, harm reduction socio-cultural contexts.
