摘要: The role of ice masses within the Earth's climate system and in landscape change is increasingly being recognised regions that are either currently glaciated or were during geological past. There many different remote field-based approaches to studying products glaciation. One approach – glacitectonics, focuses on styles deformation tectonic imprint (folds, fractures, fabrics, foliations lineations) produced as overrides pushes into pre-existing rocks sediment. This approach, when used combination with other types evidence, can be infer ice-dynamics, substrate rheology ice-bed coupling. Of equal significance influence glacitectonic structure upon applied properties terranes such ground stability, hydrogeology fluid migration (e.g. water, gas hydrates hydrocarbons). paper provides an introduction this Special Issue Glacitectonics, outlining historical development field glacial geology, before introducing summarising contributions make up volume.
