An analysis of police referrals to 10 psychiatric emergency rooms.

摘要: Data were collected on all psychiatric referrals to 10 emergency rooms in New York State during a 72-hour period early December 1988. Overall, 30 percent of the 362 cases brought by police while room percentages varied from 53 percent. As compared with nonpolice referrals, as likely be rated clinicians currently having psychotic symptoms, severe mental disorder, using substances, major illness diagnosis, and/or being referred for threatening do harm or actually harming self. Police more than male, due impaired judgment dangerous behavior others, admitted inpatient setting, have longer length stay room. In addition, at municipal hospitals only, assaultive not payment resources. A logistic regression differentiated others and reasons referral, resources hospitals, gender but any disorder variables. Policy implications training access pretransport information consultation are discussed.
