摘要: A positive correlation between human population density and species richness has been recorded across the tropics. Here I investigate whether this holds true for Europe. Analyses reveal a plant (rho = 0.505), mammal 0.471) reptile amphibian 0.556) richness. The results are largely concordant with those obtained in similar studies Africa. However, contrary to previous analyses, found people breeding bird 0.186) was weak. Of three measures of endemism used, only combined European endemic correlated 0.437). Richness among restricted-range endemics not 0.095) density, while all weakly 0.167). partially support idea biodiversity, although there some important exceptions. Discussion possible mechanisms underling observed patterns is undertaken.
