摘要: INTRODUCTION Uncertainty about levels of employee use an insurance benefit for smoking-cessation treatment has presented a barrier to employers considering the adoption such coverage. This study examined self-reported awareness and new among sample Wisconsin state employees, retirees, adult dependents. METHODS We evaluated coverage during first 2 years its availability employee, retiree, dependent population. conducted analyses responses smoking-related questions in 2001 2002 cross-sectional surveys insured dependents, weighted represent this RESULTS In 2002, smokers aware was 39.6%, unaware 3.5%. Only 27.4% were 2002; all 13.6%. Of smokers, 30.4% used medication (over-the-counter or covered) 2002. Smoking prevalence 15.6% 13.2% CONCLUSION educated population, modest availability. Benefit low which may help explain rates, particularly given 30% who attempted quit smoking with medication. These data provide use-rate estimates states contemplating evidence-based benefit.
