摘要: We present experimental studies of the rich variety two-dimensional current-density patterns that form in self-extinguishing or ``silent'' gas discharges between insulated, planar electrodes. Steady-state conditions evolve over seconds this system, making it well suited for dynamics non- equilibrium patterns. Because arise from nonlinear charge conduction processes gases, type pattern obtained a given set bias parameters depends on composition. While time-independent, Turing are predominant nearly pure He gap height used here, we find adding ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$O vapor as an impurity produces several types with persistent time dependence. As drive frequency is lowered, noisy space and dependence become increasingly common. This probably reflects enhanced effect space-charge fluctuations discharge initiation sites.
