Asymmetric Delamination and Convective Removal Numerical Modeling: Comparison with Evolutionary Models for the Alboran Sea Region

摘要: Convective removal and mantle delamination are geodynamical mechanisms proposed to explain the presence of extension in Alboran Sea within a regional context compression. Using new thermomechanical algorithm, we present here quantitative evaluation comparison conceptual models based on these mechanisms. In contrast situ convective process, laterally propagating mechanism is shown be consistent with first-order features such as thinning/thickening distribution, intermediate-depth seismicity upper structure imaged by seismic tomography. The lower crust predicted reach depths 100–150 km some areas, due mechanically-driven viscous drag downwelling mantle.
