摘要: Protected areas recently created in Argentina often include previously degraded lands, such as sheep ranches the Patagonian deserts. We show results of a 14-year monitoring program three formerly persecuted carnivores, culpeo fox (Lycalopex culpaeus), South American grey griseus) and puma (Puma concolor), two abandoned that were incorporated into national park approximately 25 years ago. The population underwent an average annual decline 10–23%, whereas populations increased at rate 7% 19%, respectively. fox’s increasing trends strongly correlated with fox, correlations between weaker. Culpeo was stronger ranch where predator controls had been removed earlier. These relationships species support competitive release hypothesis, assuming competition for trophic resources is than can exclude foxes through interference. Species suggest hierarchy species, being inferior competitor. However, mechanisms other could not be discounted. Our study illustrates how long-term interacting allows better understanding ecological processes wildlife ecology.
