摘要: The character of the polar cap ionosphere is dominated by component solar wind IMF (Interplanetary Magnetic Field) that parallel/anti-parallel to earth’s magnetic field. Changes in properties, driven changes IMF, necessarily drive both thermosphere and growth rates plasma instabilities structuring over a range scale sizes exceeding 104. physical processes determining this are mutually interactive. Selected interactive reviewed, help clarify what known, suggest where important new findings may be found, particularly at Svalbard. ionosphere/ transient response reversals should magnetospheric topology for northward IMF. cusp exhibit upwelling molecular enrichments. Certain aurora excited thermal electrons; their greater altitude impact understanding ionospheric convection. Polar patch research requires more rigor specific areas. A number clear signatures suggested arcs, reconnection events, related phenomena. thermosphere, as rest frame electric fields (currents, heating, chemical loss, instabilities), can have transpolar winds order km/s, which require measurement.
