摘要: The recovered Aleutian Cackling Goose Branta hutchinsii leucopareia population nowadays relies during spring on livestock-grazed pastures along the coast of Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, northern California, USA. Selection these foraging sites has however put geese in direct competition with livestock, which turn led to increased actions to reduce economic impacts local farmers. We assessed forage characteristics between the two primary livestock grazing regimes that shape this landscape beef cattle ranches dairy cow farms. Peak counts densities Geese were associated chronology highest crude protein concentrations low forage heights, but timing did not coincide greatest spatial distribution use across this staging area. Grass peaked February were generally higher than pastures. However, pastures was observed until a month after commenced region. encourage wildlife land managers provide successional range short sward high protein pasture, by improving areas subject invasion salt tolerant plants, digestibility, in coastal region irrigation uplands. These mechanisms are likely to deliver more grassland better quality for Geese, encompass temporal and shifts occur throughout period.
