摘要: The Canadian Acute Respiratory Illness and Flu Scale (CARIFS) is a parent-proxy questionnaire that assesses severity of acute respiratory infections in children. aim was to (a) perform cross-cultural adaptation (b) prove the Malay CARIFS reliable tool. underwent forward backward translations as recommended by international guidelines. A pilot study performed on harmonised version final produced. test-retest, 1 h apart, then parents with children less than 13 years old, admitted tract infection. Parents asthma who were not eloquent Malay, excluded. data analysed for consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) reliability (test-retest co-efficient). Thirty-three recruited. Children aged median (IQR) 6 (2.8, 13.3) months male: female ratio 22:11 88 % Malays. interviewed at (3, 11.5) days admission. Cronbach’s α coefficient 0.70 all items. test–retest analysis had minimum maximum intraclass correlation 0.63 0.97 respectively. Clinically, longer patients admitted, lower score (r = −0.35, p < 0.05), indicating they getting better. valid tool determine severity of illness Parent-centred questionnaires are useful should be an adjunct other methods, monitoring response treatment.
