摘要: Abstract Pan-European legislation stimulates international cooperation to overarching challenges of large carnivore management across jurisdictions. We present an analysis for current transboundary brown bear (Ursus arctos) population in Croatia and Slovenia. Slovenia's attempts aimed reduce human-bear conflicts, by limiting the size distribution population, with a relatively frequent use intervention shooting. In contrast, fewer conflicts occur bears have been traditionally managed as valuable game species, heavily male-biased trophy hunting. On average 9% estimated was removed annually 18% Slovenia years 2005–2010. Croatia, greater proportion adult males were shot than (80% vs 47% total hunted males, respectively). model scenario shared panmictic two scenarios assuming that Croatian Slovenian populations spatially closed. When isolated, each countries' policies lead potentially undesired directions. The showed stable or slightly decreasing trend maintained its sex age structure, while increase but possible lack older male bear. different buffered other out overall combined being increasing sustained age/sex structure. recent geopolitical refugee crisis has led partial erection border security fencing between countries. Our data illustrate how impacts constructed put place address issues may also impact fate Europe's wildlife species ecosystems.
