A comprehensive study on maxillofacial trauma conducted in Yamunanagar, India

摘要: BACKGROUND: The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, D.A.V [C] Dental College Hospital, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, India conducted a study on patients with maxillofacial fractures in time span seven years (2003-2010). purpose this was to evaluate their aetiology, incidence, patterns different modalities employed for management. METHODS: In study, 740 1054 were evaluated clinically radiographically, based which closed reduction open undertaken. Review patient records included: Age, sex, time, mechanism etiology injury, history bleeding, unconsciousness prior first aid, type vehicle use preventive measures, fracture treatment modalities. RESULTS: Road traffic accidents accounted highest number predominantly occurring the age group 21-30 (38.3%)1,2. Males incurred more male female ratio 4.2: 1.Mandible most commonly fractured bone parasymphysis being commonest affected site.76.66% had associated head injury 15.68 % unconsciousness. Open internal fixation preferred modality mandible whereas mid face treated often by methods. CONCLUSIONS: Injuries occurred 20 – 40 range road accident major etiological factor. Majority driving two wheelers under effect alcohol. Most injuries during night and  (71.89%) found be Out 532 accidents, 490 (66.2%) wheelers, among whom 49(10%) wearing helmet. mandible, parasymphyseal region (224, 30.2%),  out 314 middle third showed, 155 (49.4%) ZMC. OPG advised Xray. With regard modalities, 36.8% all mandibular (740) reduction, 62.6% using 0.5% observation only.
