[The long journey from palpation to biopsy : The history of diagnosing prostate cancer].

摘要: Though it is thousands of years old, prostate cancer (PCa) has only been known for 200 years. Until about 50 years ago, the diagnosis could be made by digital rectal examination. Although first biopsies were already implemented in beginning last century, obtained importance with introduction prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing early screening PCa and pathologist, thus, became an essential partner urologist. In more recent years, specific MRI significantly increased accuracy biopsies. Thus, question arises whether this technique going to so meaningful one day that biopsy associated pretherapeutic histology are redundant.
