摘要: In the Terra Nova Bay (TNB) region, near-surface winds are persistently strong, in particular during winter season and blow offshore with a high degree of directional constancy. This region is also known as preferential zone coastal polynyas. Polynyas recurring areas open water/thin ice surrounded by an ice-covered sea. Coastal polynyas form along ice-bound coasts; they believed to be due strong persistent and/or ocean currents which drive sea away. As removed from origin, water exposed refrozen new pushed away, so that provide source production. forms, much salt content freezing rejected, forming dense salty water, tends sink, eventually contributing deep circulation. The horizontal surface temperature differences among land ice, because close point (−1.8°C for typical water). energy exchange between atmosphere Antarctic marginal sea-ice strongly influenced extent cover. While acts insulation, direct contact air established intense exchanges occur large difference above it. result, polynya have important impact on polar meteorology/climate.
