摘要: The eggshells of drosophilid species provide a powerful model for studying the origins morphological diversity. dorsal appendages, or respiratory filaments, these display remarkable interspecies variation in number and shape, epithelial patterning underlying formation structures is an area active research. To extend analysis appendage to include morphogenesis, we developed improved 3D image reconstruction approach. This approach revealed considerable cell shape changes neighbor exchanges formation. Specifically, although floor Drosophila melanogaster formed through spatially ordered exchanges, same structure Scaptodrosophila pattersoni extreme whereas funebris appears combination both cellular mechanisms. Furthermore, localization patterns Par3/Bazooka suggest self-organized, polarity-based origin variability S. pattersoni. Our results that deploy different combinations apically basally driven mechanisms convert two-dimensional primordium into three-dimensional structure, new directions exploring molecular variation.
