Livestock Responses to Complementary Forages in Shortgrass Steppe

摘要: Livestock gains of yearling Hereford heifers were evaluated during 1996-1999 on two comple- mentary forage grasses, "Bozoisky-Select" Russian wildrye (Psathyrostachys juncea (Fisch.) Nevski) or "Hycrest" crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum (L.) Gaertn. ssp. desertorum (Fisch. ex Link) A. Love). Average daily similar between light and moderate stocking rates for both Bozoisky Hycrest, trended higher Hycrest than at rates. Total annual (spring + fall) beef production (kg/ ha) was consistently greater (29%-46%) complementary forages. Spring represented >75% the total across these forages to those native shortgrass steppe summer grazing season, but four times with forages, suggesting that can fill gaps provide significant contributions production.
