摘要: OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency and type of nosocomial infections (NIs) (especially surgical-site [SSIs]), risk factors, duration antibiotic use among surgical patients in Greek hospitals. DESIGN: Two point-prevalence studies. SETTING: Fourteen PATIENTS: Those hospitals during two prevalence surveys undergoing surgery their stay. RESULTS: In 1999 survey, 129 1,037 had developed 148 NIs (14.3%). A total 1,093 operations were registered, 49 SSIs (4.5%) found. 2000 82 868 88 (10.1%). 902 38 detected (4.2%). The median length stay (LOS) for without SSI was 10.0 days (range, 1-19 days); who it 30 1-52 days; P < .001). LOS prior to 1 day 0-4 3 0-7.5 <.001). Among possible factors studied, wound class, surgery, central venous catheterization independent predictors SSI. Median durations prophylactic therapy 4 1-14 days) 6 1-16 surveys, respectively. CONCLUSION: Surgical suffered higher rates than did other countries while antibiotics used excessively.
