摘要: Abstract This paper brings some clarity to the debate on Chinese participation in Ghana's artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector. Over past decade, tens of thousands nationals have migrated rural Ghana, where they proceeded extract gold, for most part undeterred, illicitly. The perceived impacts this migration captured interest global public attracted considerable media attention. Government Ghana has responded, albeit rather pedestrianly, mounting concerns by assembling a National Task Force ‘flush out’ illegal miners. It is argued here, however, that will only provide short-term relief because issue being tackled – growing ASM latest ‘expression’ much bigger problem: namely sector's perpetual informality, brought about an excessively-bureaucratic legalization process failure, government donors, deliver adequate appropriate support desperate operators. key reducing inflow migrants regions adequately addressing root causes informality.
