摘要: Carotenoids are widespread among bacteria, algae, fungi, and higher plants (see Ref. [34] for a review). Because of their lipophilic properties they membrane components or desolved in lipid vacuoles. Usually metabolic activity is small, with lifetimes the range several days. In photosynthetic membranes, however, fast carotenoid reactions have been observed upon illumination. One type reaction takes place within few nanoseconds consists light-induced conversion carotenoids to metastable states [36]. Another minutes, enzymic, involves specific cyclic pathway. The this pathway will be presented here.
