摘要: Abstract In recent years, anomalous, large, summer Fragilaria crotonensis pulses have been reported from Pigeon Bay. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors which contribute these pulses, based on experiments designed investigate effects nutrients and interaction light growth, field monitoring, a review published studies. It found that not only provides optimal water temperatures for F. but peak incident solar radiation transparency. is hypothesized during are dependent upon three major factors: 1) adequate supplies (silica phosphorus); 2) presence slight thermal stratification with concomitant wind velocities sufficient keep cells circulating in surface mixed layer; and, 3) low turbidities irradiance growth. Once such physicochemical conditions exist, it appears can grow rapidly (because adapted superior exploitative competitor phosphorus silica) achieve densities as high 950,000 L −1 . Such may be terminated by lack (which allows sink out photic zone), increase turbidity decrease penetration), or depletion nutrients. probably affected zooplankton grazing because its large size chain-forming morphology. An order magnitude nitrogen:phosphorus ratios Bay since late 1960s provided more environment growth years.
