摘要: Background Conflicting results exist about the meaning of exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) in epidemiologic studies, mainly because numerous factors that may affect measurement. Objectives To evaluate role influence eNO levels a sample schoolchildren with or without respiratory diseases. We studied 335 schoolchildren, ages 10 to 16 years, from 8 schools Palermo, Italy. After questionnaire was completed, spirometry, skin tests, and measurements were performed. Results Among children, 13.7% reported symptoms bronchial asthma, 46.9% rhinitis, 39.4% asymptomatic. The ratio forced expiratory volume 1 second vital capacity 87.6% (SD, 6.4%) asthma group, 90.6% 5.0%) rhinitis 90.4% 5.1%) asymptomatic group ( P Dermatophagoides . Median 12.6 ppb nonatopic children 21.2 atopic U test). had significantly higher than did Conclusions Atopy (in particular, sensitization indoor perennial allergens) is strongly associated levels. Such association enhanced by asthma.
