摘要: Mainstream psychiatry conceptualizes people who are homeless and mentally ill as distinct from other persons because it is thought that their status stems mental disorder the poor implementation of deinstitutionalization. The authors believe this dichotomy illusory. They present data indicating recent socioeconomic political shifts contributed greatly to homelessness among all groups, regardless illness; those with without illness have similar biographical demographic profiles; high levels distress common persons; few require involuntary hospitalization. This perspective suggests novel responses de-emphasize clinical solutions focus on empowerment, consumerism, entitlement, community-level interventions, closer alliances advocates for homeless.
