摘要: While ocean acidification (OA) effects on marine organisms are well documented, impacts of sediment infaunal relatively understudied. Here we synthesize CO2-driven bivalves. carbonate system conditions can already exceed near-future OA projections, sediments become even more acidic as overlying seawater pH decreases. Evidence suggests that bivalves experience shell dissolution, lesions, and increased mortality in sediments; heavy metal accumulation appear complex uncertain. Infaunal avoid negative functional consequences by reducing burrowing increasing dispersal sediments, irrespective species or life stage; elevated temperature may compromise this avoidance behaviour. The combined other environmental stressors virtually unknown. it is evident impact bivalves, research needed to confidently predict under future conditions.
