摘要: Objective Recent studies have demonstrated a high prevalence of multiresistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in Saudi Arabia. In this study, we assessed the impact and other factors on treatment outcome among nationals. Methods We studied all patients (147 patients) with culture-proven diagnosis seen at King Khalid National Guard Hospital (KKNGH), Jeddah, Arabia from June 1993 to 1999. Treatment was classified as success or failure based clinical assessment, improvement deterioration chest X-rays, results follow-up sputum examination. Results Of 147 patients, only 126 completed program. found be successful 102 (81.0%) unsuccessful 24 (19.0%) these patients. However, is much less (102/147; 69.4%) higher (45/147; 30.6%) if 21 who were lost are regarded failures. The poor compliance multiply drug-resistant significantly those than whom successful. There no significant difference between different age groups. observed more common (P Conclusion Successful Nationals KKNGH 1993-99 below rate recommended by WHO, failed associated compliance, male gender tuberculosis. These emphasize importance culture sensitivity tests for close supervision taking antituberculosis medications.
