摘要: This text provides an accessible framework for understanding science, technology, and medicine (STM) in the West from Renaissance to 21st century. John V. Pickstone's approach has four key features. First, he synthesizes long-term histories philosophies of disciplines that are normally studied separately. Second, dissects STM into specific ways knowing - natural history, analysis, experimentalism with separate but interlinked elements. Third, explores these as forms work related our various technologies making, mending, destroying. And finally, relates scientific technical knowledges popular understandings politics. Covering a wide range subjects, minerals machines patients pharmaceuticals, experimental physics genetic engineering, "Ways Knowing" challenges reader re-examine traditional conceptualizations philosophy, social studies medicine.
