摘要: Abstract The trace element selenium (Se), once known only for its potential toxicity, is now a well-established essential micronutrient mammals. organoselenium compound diphenyl diselenide (DPDS) has shown interesting antioxidant and neuroprotective activities. On the other hand, this also presented pro-oxidant mutagenic effects. 3′3-ditrifluoromethyldiphenyl (DFDD), structural analog of diselenide, proven antipsychotic activity in mice. Nevertheless, as opposed to DPDS, little on biological toxicological properties DFDD. In present study, we report genotoxic effects DFDD Salmonella typhimurium , Saccharomyces cerevisiae Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts (V79 cells). protective against hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O )-induced DNA damage vitro are demonstrated. did not cause S. or strains; however, it induced V79 cells at doses higher than 25 μM, detected by comet assay. protected H -induced mutagenicity, and, lower 12.5 μM, prevented genotoxicity cells. assays demonstrated that mimics catalase better but neither presents superoxide dismutase action. products reactions DPDS with were different, determined electrospray mass spectrometry analysis (ESI-MS). These results suggest bacteria yeast; may induce weak mammalian addition, effect probably mimicking activity, distinct reaction have fundamental role
