摘要: In 2001, the 77th Texas legislature passed Senate Bill 19 requiring students in publicly funded elementary schools to participate physical activity and implement a coordinated school health program by September 1, 2007. We report on awareness of adherence statewide sample subsample two public regions located along Texas-Mexico border. Statewide, structured interviews with principals indicated high 19's requirements, but lower need for parental involvement. Only 43% had adopted their 1 year or less before implementation deadline. Principals reported an average 179 min education per week, higher than 135-min mandate. Among border schools, principals' reports were consistent teacher records student reports. Further, direct observation that 50% class time was spent moderate vigorous activity, meeting level intensity recommended Healthy People 2010. The differences observed included: more minutes Region 10 (231 compared 217 11); adoption programs (92% 75%); district-level advisory committees (58% 38%) school-level (83% 25%); prevalence obesity 4th grade (21% 32%). Differences region suggest is not being adhered equally across state, some may require further support increase implementation. Results underscore importance continued monitoring enacted legislation, legislation child focuses policies requires funding refinement produce intended effect.
