摘要: This paper presents a framework for the development of socio-ecological systems towards enhanced sustainability. Emphasis is given to dynamic properties complex, adaptive social-ecological systems, their structure and fundamental role agriculture. The tangible components that meet needs specific projects executed in Kenya Ethiopia encompass project objectives, innovation, facilitation, continuous recording analyses monitoring data, allow management system navigation. Two case studies deal with navigation through mitigation key constraints; they aim improve human health thanks anopheline malaria vectors control Nyabondo (Kenya), cattle tsetse antitrypanosomal drug administration Luke (Ethiopia). second deals enhance sustainability, establishing periurban diversified enterprise Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) developing rural sustainable procedures are briefly described here outcomes analysed relation stated objectives. methodology disease vector were easier implement than sustainability enhancement. achievements considerably differed between constraints removal enhancement projects. Some recommendations made rationalise improvement efforts smoothen road sustainability: i) technology implementation should be carried out an innovation system; ii) transparent information continuously acquired evaluated assessing state objectives (a) improving insight into behaviour (b) rationalizing decision support; iii) different views all stakeholders reconciled pragmatic approach management.
