Multiple-use forestry as a boundary object: From a shared ideal to multiple realities

摘要: Today, multiple-use (or multifunctional) forestry is one of the main concepts guiding European forestry. While there wide acceptance overall concept, here a lack coherence in definitions, policies and practices. Such outcomes indicate that (MUF) may contain essential properties “boundary object”, i.e. something robust enough to conceptually unite different interests, but at same time flexible encompass practices line with local needs conditions. This study sets out explore conceptualization implementation MUF as boundary object, examining trends an international level, scrutinising national specifics three case countries: Lithuania, Netherlands Sweden. The review literature finds no consensus on what is, beyond combining two or more forest functions uses. countries show widely approaches conceptualizing implementing MUF, not least terms spatial scales for integrating segregating various functions. analysis indicates we should expect instrumentation toward uniform guidelines shape throughout Europe.
