Neurosteroids Alter γ-Aminobutyric Acid Postsynaptic Currents in Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Neurons: A Possible Mechanism for Direct Steroidal Control

摘要: Pulsatile GnRH release is required for fertility and regulated by steroid feedback. Whether or not steroids their metabolites act directly on neurons well established. In some neurons, known as neurosteroids modulate the function of GABAA receptor. Specifically, progesterone derivative allopregnanolone an allosteric agonist at this receptor, whereas androgen dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) antagonist. We hypothesized these similarly to modify response GABA. Whole-cell voltage-clamp recordings GABAergic miniature postsynaptic currents (mPSCs) were made from green fluorescent protein-identified in brain slices diestrous mice.
