摘要: Abstract The efficacy of fish diversity surrogates is central to their utility in conservation planning and management. Here we examine the linkages among a range biotic abiotic for estuarine within Port Stephens estuary NSW, Australia. We effectiveness using habitats as diversity, whether this surrogacy persists through time. study was conducted assemblage data gathered across eight priori identified habitat types. Significant differences assemblages, species richness, functional richness were detected 26 out 28 pairs, these persisted over 1 year key Dendronephthya australis (soft coral) filter feeder habitats, demonstrating potential be used diversity. correlations between variables (i.e. depth, location, substrate type, complexity) assemblages also established. Overall, results demonstrate that both can estuary, combining types predictor provide high level discrimination assemblages. use can, therefore, improve representation fishes marine protected areas.
