摘要: Abstract There are concerns over a range of adverse environmental effects resulting from the storage livestock manures on farms. The objectives this study were to examine all likely different methods, and recommend which most desirable options. Literature reviews undertaken identify consequences each commonly used method, in terms water pollution risks, odour ammonia emissions, greenhouse gas emissions survival microorganisms during storage. Planning landscape aspects considered feasible options for abatement identified. An ‘environmental rating’ systems was then devised, with aim obtaining balance between pollution, aerial other concerns. rating exercise favoured more sophisticated hence expensive methods. No large differences emerged ratings slurry solid when ease adding control measures excluded. For pigs, appear have slight advantage, because greater pig manure. use such system could be developed further as data become available. Whilst method indicates relative desirability at national scale it adapted take account local considerations or those individual farm sites.
