摘要: Areas of Britain at altitudes approaching and above the tree line have a distinctive reasonably well-known flora but their fauna is not known to same extent. It was thought that distribution Lumbricidae in such an area might be limited knowledge any limitations would indicate some general requirements family possible differences between species. To this end investigation made Nature Conservancy Reserve, N.R. 80, Moor House, situated northern Pennines approximately 11 miles (17 6 km) south Alston, Cumberland. The Reserve adjacent south-east Cross Fell source River Tees includes Great Dun, Little Dun Knock Fells. bulk lies 1800 ft (549 m); it has characteristically cold, wet climate (Manley 1952) overlain with peat bog various stages decay regeneration. Mull soils, generally accepted as typical lumbricid habitat, are rare extent, being restricted banks streams occasional limestone outcrops.
