摘要: A brief review is given of recent work on the biological effects thermal pollution in British Isles. Some Hunterston Generating Station, Ayrshire, Scotland are briefly described. Experimental suggests that planktonic larvae locally abundant bivalve Tellina tenuis unlikely to be harmed by heating during passage through cooling system. On other hand, growth gastropod Nassarius reticulatus affected a beach near outfall. Spawning times this species advanced about 3 months compared with locality not warm water. Experiments also show hatching egg capsules more rapid at higher temperatures. possible implications discussed.
