摘要: There are very few studies on Neotropical river otters (Lontra longicaudis) in Uruguay. However, the species is nowadays considered to be fairly common country. This paper reports its distribution and current conservation status Uruguayan Atlantic basin. It provides some information activity patterns, diet, interactions with fishermen. The presence of was evaluated through interviews fishermen local people, field surveys 1999 2000. Otter recorded every lagoon tributary surveyed. Local people consider that currently more abundant than they were 10 years ago. recovery probably consequence ceasing commercial hunting. Otters both day night active, though foraging takes place during night. All year round, frequently seen small groups, which may indicate social generally thought. Most dietary items fish crustaceans, but preying mammals, birds, reptiles also recorded. Interactions go far beyond trapped nets. do not perceive these animals as competitors, sympathetic companions.
