摘要: Epoxy resins are hardly toughened by low weight content of tougheners. In this study, 5 wt % polyurea was adopted to significantly toughen piperidine-cured epoxy, as fracture toughness improved from 0.78 1.98 MPa m1/2. We focused on the reactions and morphology evolution epoxy/polyurea mixture. The molecular reduced exchange with epoxy during mixing, evidenced gel permeation chromatograph Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. As a result, molecules were chemically bonded polyurea, improving particle interface thickness. Transmission electron microscope observation shows that (a) in situ formed nanoparticles matrix which subsequently aggregate into micron-sized particles thick matrix; (b) became less stainable increasing mixing time, because promoted high levels crosslink density thus more resistant diffusion staining chemicals. Longer time improved, obviously, composite. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010
