摘要: Objective To evaluate the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic tools available for assessing maxillary transverse deficiencies. Methods An electronic search three databases was performed from their date establishment to April 2015, with manual searching reference lists relevant articles. Articles were considered inclusion if they reported or a method evaluation technique dimensions in mixed permanent dentitions. Risk bias assessed included articles, using Quality Assessment Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool-2. Results Nine articles selected. The studies heterogeneous, moderate low methodological quality, all had high risk bias. Four suggested that use arch width prediction indices dental cast measurements is unreliable diagnosis. Frontal cephalograms derived cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images reportedly more reliable intermaxillary discrepancies than posteroanterior cephalograms. Two proposed new three-dimensional analyses CBCT reliable, but have not been validated clinical sensitivity specificity. No sensitivity, specificity, positive negative predictive values likelihood ratios, ROC curves methods diagnosis Conclusions Current evidence does enable solid conclusions be drawn, owing lack quality evaluating are diagnosis, further validation required confirm CBCT's superiority.
