Cleavage of aldehyde hydrazonium iodides under mild conditions. A convenient route to chiral nitriles of high enantiomeric purity

摘要: A convenient procedure for conversion of methiodide derivatives to nitriles under mildly basic conditions with absolute stereocontrol has been developed. Dimethyl hydrazones treated excess methyl iodide, followed by an elimination reaction in the presence mild base, produced yields ranging from 76-96%.
