Using immunohistochemical techniques, cellular localization expression uroki-nase- type plasminogen activator (uPA) was assessed, whereas its determined by fibrin zymog-raphy, amounts enzyme were measured an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (chordoma, chondrosarcoma, giant cell tumor) spine arising from various malignancies (breast, lung, thyroid, renal carcinomas, melanomas). Metastatic displayed higher levels uPA than did (P < 0.001). Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that highest metastases lung breast carcinomas melanomas, followed thyr oid carcinomas. Similar results obtained level as zymography ELISA, respectively. conclude possess tumors, which tend be less aggressive only locally malignancies. suggest system may participate metastasis column.© Kluwer Academic Publishers 1998
