摘要: Cytotoxicity of metals is important because some are potential mutagens able to induce tumors in humans and experimental animals. Chromium can damage DNA several ways, including double strand breaks (DSBs) which generate chromosomal aberrations, micronucleus formation, sister chromatid exchange, formation adducts alterations replication transcription. In our study, water samples from three sites the Corrego dos Bagres stream Franca municipality Brazilian state Sao Paulo were subjected comet assay test using erythrocytes fish Oreochromis niloticus. Nuclear abnormalities included blebbed, notched lobed nuclei, probably due genotoxic chromium compounds. The greatest occurred with a chromium-containing tannery effluent discharge site, supporting hypothesis that residues be genotoxic. mutagenicity was assessed onion root-tip cell assay, most frequent observed being: c-metaphases, stick chromosome, chromosome losses, bridged anaphases, multipolar micronucleated binucleated cells. Onion highest for containing levels chromium.
