Long-Term Effects of Witnessing Marital Violence for Women: The Contribution of Childhood Physical and Sexual Abuse

摘要: A sample of 313 college women completed a questionnaire about experiences with violence in childhood and adulthood adult adjustment relationship functioning. Nine percent the reported having witnessed some type physical conflict between their parents. Witnessing marital was associated other family mental health risks, sexual abuse, assaults by strangers. Women who more symptoms posttraumatic stress disorder than women, after background abuse variables were accounted for. Significant interactions witnessing observed for measures social avoidance predictability partner relationships, indicating that effects depended on presence abuse. Implications these results research interventions are discussed.
