摘要: Satellite data have allowed scientists to generate a quantitative model assess the response rates of different ecosystems climate variability. The index provides tool for comparing regional sensitivity and resilience. See Letter p.229 A key question in change research is how identify most sensitive variation. This study uses MODIS satellite collected between February 2000 December 2013 develop new metric, 'vegetation index', which measures ecosystem external forcing three variables — air temperature, water availability cloud cover. can be used resilience status at high spatial resolution on global scale. Areas amplified variability are evident Arctic tundra, boreal tropical rainforest, alpine regions, steppe prairie regions central Asia North South America, Caatinga deciduous forest eastern areas Australia.
