摘要: Abstract Objectives To determine the incidence of granulomatous prostatitis and acid-fast bacilli (AFB) after intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) therapy for superficial bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) or in situ (CIS). Methods One hundred nineteen men underwent radical cystoprostatectomy invasive cancer from January 1, 1980 through December 31, 1995. Twelve patients had received BCG before undergoing cystoprostatectomy. Nine who did not receive served as controls. The surgical specimens were examined with a Ziehl-Neelsen stain presence AFB. Results Granulomatous was identified 9 12 (75%) therapy. AFB 7 (77%) prostatitis. Conclusions Pathologic evidence is common occurrence its far greater than reported symptomatic discovered during evaluation either an increased level prostate-specific antigen prostate nodule otherwise asymptomatic may require no specific
