摘要: Abstract To assess the extent to which Hurricanes Katrina and Rita affected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in Gulf of Mexico (GOM), sediment cores were analyzed late 2005 from: a shallow shelf, deeper marsh station. Sediment geochronology, fabric, geochemistry show that storms deposited ∼10 cm surface core at 5-12A. Bulk carbon PAH isomers this top layer suggest source portion 5-12A was from relatively more marine area. Particulate PAHs (04 M) appeared unaffected by while sediments Station 5-1B (deeper shelf) minimally (some possible storm-derived deposition). Substantial amounts PAH-laden particles may have been displaced seabed areas water column GOM these storms.
