摘要: In Give a Man Fish James Ferguson examines the rise of social welfare programs in southern Africa, which states make cash payments to their low income citizens. More than thirty percent South Africa's population receive such payments, even as pundits elsewhere proclaim neoliberal death state. These programs' successes at reducing poverty under conditions mass unemployment, argues, provide an opportunity for rethinking contemporary capitalism and developing new forms political mobilization. Interested emerging "politics distribution," shows how demands direct (including so-called "basic income") require us reexamine relation between production distribution, ask questions about markets, livelihoods, labor, future progressive politics.
