摘要: MEMORY is a hallmark of the immune system and ever since its recognition there has been considerable interest in understanding how immunity maintained1–5. The current model that long-term memory dependent on persistent antigenic stimulation6–11. We report here results challenge this view provide evidence antigen not essential for maintenance CD8+ T-cell memory. show cytotoxic T lymphocytes persist indefinitely absence priming antigen, retain phenotype (CD44hi), protection against virus challenge. These findings suggest re-evaluation our thinking mechanisms involved maintaining have implications towards designing effective vaccination strategies.
