摘要: Social gerontology researchers have investigated various aspects ofelder activities in diverse culture contexts. This project assessed theknowledge that Mayan people about the of their elders.Data were collected through two interview procedures. The firstprocedure, free-listing, was conducted with an initial sample Mayansubjects (n = 31), who provided terms representing culturalknowledge elder activities. A second 56)performed a pile sort task using 18 those sortfindings subjected to multidimensional scaling, and techniqueproduced two-dimensional visual representation three distinctclusters activities: productive work, serious socio-religiousundertakings frivolous ventures. Besides coherentmultidimensional scaling for total 56subjects, scalings subsamples based on generational affiliation wererun. Two-dimensional pictures or maps aged, middle-agedand young adult subjects are remarkably similar each other thepicture sample. From methodological perspective theresearch findings demonstrate activities, andpresumably elders societies, amenable interviewprocedures high validity reliability.
