Observation of Satellite Reflections in the Intermediate Phase of Quartz

摘要: The intermediate phase (IP) between α and β phases of quartz, which has been reported previously by the present authors, was studied a fine-beam X-ray Laue method. Then, one could find satellite reflections. analysis shows that IP sinusoidal displacive modulated structure is characterized 6 wave vectors q perpendicular to axes. transversal in C-plane. period \(\varLambda{=}q^{-1}\) modulation associated intensities increase as temperature decreases; i.e. \(\varLambda{=}172{\pm}10\) A on side 565±25 side. satellites are likely owing optical mode vibration SiO 4 tetrahedra.
