摘要: Individuals who occupy positions of high status and authority tend to engage in overconfidence more than others. While prior work suggests that this excessive is partly a product their elevated status, the current research tested whether can also lead status: Are individuals with overly positive self-perceptions ability likely attain first place? Three studies task-focused dyads groups involving laboratory field settings found support for hypothesis. Further, relation between was consistently mediated by peer-perceived competence: overconfident attained because others inaccurately perceived them as competent. An experimental manipulation established causal priority overconfidence, longitudinal study effects endured over time.
